KS3 Courses
Music is taught to all students in KS3, once a week in 50 minute lessons. In addition all students in Y7 and 8 have two Carousel lessons for six weeks to the year which gives great opportunites for musical exploration that there wouldn’t be time for in the regular weekly lesson. In Y9 students are able to choose music as a Preference subject and have two lessons of music per week. These lessons are an ideal foundation and preparation for further study at GCSE, but they are also great fun and students really enjoy the course. The programmes followed cover a wide range of music and is planned to enable progression, both with the year and key stage and also to KS4. We are looking to improve the learning of our students through the delivery of a skills based curriculum where students will learn to play instruments, read and write music and manipulate sound through the use of appropriate technology. As a result of this new curriculum to Hinchingbrooke we expect to be able to raise attainment and especially engagement.
KS4 Courses
Our GCSE syllabus is Edexcel. The course is open to students of all abilities. We are always happy to discuss with students and parents about choosing Music as a GCSE option. Please see also the edexcel website if you interested about the course content.
KS5 Courses
We teach AS and A2 Music and AS and A2 Music Technology. The AS Music course is open to anyone who has achieved a B or higher in their Music GCSE, at least Grade 4 on their instrument by the beginning of the course, and an understanding of music theory at Grade 5 level. For AS Music Technology you do not need instrumental skills, but these will of course help you. We do ask that you achieve a Grade B in GCSE Music. We are well equipped with a new suite of Apple mac computers and a recording studio.
