Man with a Movie Camera: Dziga Vertov (1929)

The film is structured around the broad themes of starting the day, work and leisure time and is simultaneously a documentary of a day in the life of the Soviet Union, a documentary of the filming of that day in the life, and a depiction of an audience watching the film.  Even the editing of the film is documented. Soviet life is shown to be interconnected and happy.

Vertov considered narrative film to be bourgeois and championed ‘kino pravda’, filming ‘life as it is’.
