In wartime Scicily, the young teenager Renato becomes besotted by the beautiful Malena.  His problem: so is every other man.  As Renato grows increasingly obsessed by his fantasies of encounters with her, so the life of the real Malena becomes increasingly difficult.  Gradually, Renato begins to see the real woman behind his ideal.
