Below are the DT ARD tasks. Find your year group and then select a task that will challenge you.
Year 7 ARD task 1
Extra Hot
Design a machine that recycles Aluminium
Be bold, creative and think outside of the box. You can be as wacky as you want!
Before you start there are some things that you need to do:
* Research what type of material aluminium is
* Find out where it comes from
* Find out how it is processed
* Think about the resources you have available to you at home.
Task 1
Sketch in 2D and/or 3D
Add colour and texture using coloured pencils or felt pens
Label all the parts of your sketch /es with as much detail as possible explaining how it might work
Create a PPP (Power Point Presentation) and import your sketches and/or photographs into it.
Task 2
Model a design idea using any scrap materials including card, paper or wood
Ask and adult if you are planning on using tools and or any resistant materials
Add labels to show how it might work
Task 3
Use an appropriate software package you may have at home to design your idea. For example: Paint or Pages

Visit the FSC website.
Produce an A4 research page on the work of the FSC. You will need to include –
- Who they are
- What they do and how
- Details of 3 of their case studies
- How businesses can use their logo
Once you have completed this, you need to use the information available on the website to produce a Powerpoint report which looks at the role of the following groups of people: forest users, consumers, indigenous people, government and environmental organisations.
There is a lot of information available so your presentation should be detailed including at least 3 slides per group of people including suitable images.

Once you have completed produce a leaflet that promotes a new nature trail that runs through a forest.
Your map should be on A4 paper and shows the route and features that people can look out for on the way. Use google images to give you some ideas. Your map should be neatly rendered in pencil crayon, include a key and images of the points of interest.

Year 9 ARD task 1

- Find and present your own example of packaging that you think is not sustainable.
- Explain all the features you consider to be unsustainable about the packaging. Think about the 6Rs.
- Present 3 detailed designs for more sustainable packaging for the same product, without compromising the necessary functions it should perform. Justify the design choices you have made.

- Find and present your own example of packaging that you think uses too many resources. This can be a product you have bought, or one you have found images of.
- Label the features you think are unnecessary and explain why.
- Present 3 detailed designs for a more sustainable package. Focus on the three of the 6Rs: reduce, reuse and recycle.
- Annotate the designs to explain how you have improved the packaging and how the packaging still maintains its necessary functions.
Mild
Easter eggs are often over-packaged.
- Label the features of the packaging above and explain their functions/ purpose.
- Reducing is a way to make designs more sustainable. Explain how you can reduce the materials or features without compromising the functions of this piece of packaging.
- Present 2 detailed designs for a Cadbury’s Flake Easter egg to show this.
- Annotate your designs to explain how you have improved the sustainability of the original package and how it still performs original functions.
Year 10 ARD task 1
