Creative Circuit Huntingdon

Creative Circuit Huntingdon (CCH) is an Art Club based at Hinchingbrooke School in collaboration with Wysing Arts Centre.

CCH is open to young people aged 13- 19 (Years 8 -13 and 1 year on alumni) at Hinchingbrooke School. We meet regularly to work on peer-led collaborative projects. The group is rooted in Visual Arts but also expands into Performing and Creative Arts, so the group is open to anyone with creative interest.

Running for since 2018, it has been a great success. Creative Circuit is about experimenting with different ways of experiencing and making art. We do this through organising and running projects and creative events for other young people in the local area.

Previous projects have included making zines, creating an animations, interviewing artists, planning events and organising exhibitions. You can visit Wysing’s archive of past projects here.

The Circuit groups have demonstrated that art can have a significant impact in building young people’s confidence, practical skills and their social and personal development. Wysing Arts Centre and Art School HBK believe that these types of groups are essential for our young people to:

  • Share resources, aims and values.
  • Advocate and support social, cultural and economic justice
  • Establish ways for young people to work as producers of cross-art-form cultural activity that draws on their wider social and cultural experiences.
  • Provide progression routes that allow for the development of transferable personal and professional skills, for education and employment, and an increased understanding of the cultural sector.

What students have said about the group so far:

‘It [has] made me get out of my comfort zone & try new things’

‘I saw that art can be a lot of things, it’s just how you see it’

‘I think that now I’m a little more confident in speaking & a bit more confident about trying new things & going to galleries’

‘[I’ve learnt] that I don’t need to be anxious trying new things’
