GCSE Business Studies in Action

Mr Kennedy teaching Team Business students

At GCSE, we currently offer AQA GCSE Business Studies (full course).

Unit 1 : Setting up a Business  is studied in Year 10 and looks at giving students an understanding of starting a business. This unit is examined at the end of year 11 and is worth 40% of the final GCSE mark.  It consists of five sections;

  • business planning
  • marketing
  • finance
  • people in business
  • operations management.

This content is further developed with the examination of Unit 2 : Growing as a Business in Year 11, giving the students more depth to their understanding. This unit is examined at the end of Year 11 and is worth 35 % of the final GCSE mark.

In Year 11, students will also complete a "controlled assessment".  This is worth 25 % of the final GCSE mark.

The structure of the course is displayed in the diagram below
